I invite you to step outside your comfort zones and into the wider world to celebrate Juneteenth with neighboring communities. In my travels across the diocese, I’ve often heard that there are few or no African Americans in your churches and communities. This celebration is a meaningful opportunity for members of the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon to “leave our bunkers” and to learn, connect, and enjoy fellowship with others where they are.

This year, we are honored to co-celebrate Juneteenth with Allen Temple CME Church. The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m. at Allen Temple CME Church, located at 4236 NE 8th Avenue, Portland. This marks our second annual celebration since Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday by President Joe Biden on June 17, 2021.

All are welcome, and I hope you will mark your calendars and join us. I look forward to seeing you there!
