Dear Friends in Christ,
We have just come through our second Easter in this pandemic. Surely, this is not what any of us expected a year ago… or even 6 months ago. Some of you may have received the vaccine to protect you from the serious illness of COVID-19, and I know many of you are eagerly awaiting to know when you can get vaccinated. Still, others are wondering if you should get the vaccine at all.
I urge you, as members of the Body of Christ, to seriously consider receiving the vaccine. We are not through this pandemic yet. There continue to be daily reports of individuals who are testing positive for the virus, and we continue to lose members of our Oregon community to death from this virus. The best chance we have of protecting ourselves and each other is to get vaccinated. My second dose will be administered later this month and I look forward to being fully vaccinated.
There are unfounded rumors circulating in some of our communities that the vaccine is dangerous or ineffective. Neither is true. The CDC and our state health authorities have continually assured us of the medical safety of the vaccine. As I write this letter, the state of Michigan is reporting an alarming increase in Covid infections and deaths. Health authorities there are concerned that two things are working against prevention: 1) not enough people are being vaccinated, and 2) people are beginning to relax their practices of physical-distancing and mask wearing.
We must do everything we can to prevent COVID-19 from spreading and causing more illness and deaths. Please talk to your physician about receiving a vaccine, and talk to your priests, many of whom are now vaccinated, about the importance of the vaccine for our community.
The sooner we are all vaccinated, the sooner we can all come together in worship to sing together and to receive Holy Eucharist in both elements.
Finally, please join me in prayers of thanksgiving for the scientists, laboratories, and medical workers who continue to work tirelessly to rid us of this virus.

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,
Acabamos de pasar por nuestra segunda Pascua dentro de esta pandemia. Sin duda, ninguno de nosotros esperaba esto hace un año… o incluso hace 6 meses. Algunos de ustedes es posible que ya hayan recibido la vacuna para protegerse de esta enfermedad tan grave de COVID-19, y sé que muchos de ustedes, con impaciencia, están esperando saber cuándo pueden vacunarse.
Sin embargo, hay otros que se preguntan si deberían vacunarse. Les insisto, como miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, a que consideren seriamente recibir la vacuna. Todavía no hemos superado esta pandemia. Continuamente recibimos informes diarios de personas con resultado positivo del virus, y seguimos perdiendo miembros de nuestra comunidad en Oregon, que mueren a causa de este virus. Vacunarnos, es la mejor oportunidad que tenemos para protegernos a nosotros mismos y unos a otros. Mi segunda dosis será administrada a finales de este mes y así espero estar completamente vacunada. En algunas de nuestras comunidades circulan rumores infundados de que la vacuna es peligrosa o ineficaz. Ninguna de las dos cosas son ciertas. Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) y nuestras autoridades de salud estatales continuamente nos aseguran de la seguridad médica de la vacuna. Mientras escribo esta carta, el estado de Michigan informa que hay un aumento alarmante de infecciones y muertes por Covid-19.
Las autoridades de salud están preocupadas por dos cosas que están actuando en contra de la prevención: 1) no se está vacunando a bastantes personas y 2) la gente está comenzando a relajar sus prácticas de distanciamiento físico social y el uso de cubre bocas.
Debemos hacer todo lo posible para evitar que el COVID-19 se propague y cause más enfermedades y muertes. Por favor, hable con su médico acerca de recibir una vacuna, y hable con sus sacerdotes, muchos de los cuales ahora están vacunados, sobre la importancia de la vacuna para nuestra comunidad. En cuanto antes todos estemos vacunados, más pronto podremos reunirnos para nuestras celebraciones, para cantar juntos y recibir la Sagrada Eucaristía bajo las dos especies.
Finalmente, por favor, únase a mí en oraciones de acción de gracias por los científicos, laboratorios y trabajadores médicos que continúan trabajando incansablemente para eliminar este virus.
