Internship Description

St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church is offering a Summer Youth Ministry Internship for a rising college junior or senior, studying a related field in a 4-year university. This position offers a unique opportunity for gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of church ministry. The intern will work closely with our rector and staff to support the planning and execution of summer programs, including youth mission trip, community outreach initiatives, worship services, and educational events. Responsibilities may include assisting with administrative tasks, leading youth activities, and facilitating group discussions. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a passion for serving others, and a desire to grow spiritually and professionally in an inclusive and affirming Christian community. This internship is a valuable opportunity for individuals exploring vocational ministry or seeking to deepen their understanding of Episcopal traditions and practices.

Ministry Intern’s Activities:

  • Assist with Youth Ministry – connecting, planning for Fall, supporting mission trip and summer gatherings
  • Build relationships with congregation members by consistently attending church events and meeting one-on-one with at least 1 church member per week
  • Lead a portion of Sunday worship in a variety of roles throughout the summer
  • Attend meetings and participate in St. Michael’s Service, Outreach & Justice, and Immigrant Welcoming Congregation ministries, including Pride.
  • Assist with Special Projects, assigned by Rector
  • Engage with Rector and ministry leaders in intentional conversations about innovating and reimagining church to better serve the community.
  • Meet with Rector for one hour each week to reflect on the week and my sense of calling to leadership in a congregation
  • Keep a journal about daily activities
  • Write a reflection article about “My internship experience at St. Michael’s” at the end of the summer, to be published in the St. Michael’s newsletter; and/or share in a forum with the congregation about the intern’s experience and observations.

Ministry Intern Experience:

  • Relate with people in the community/church context – what does it look like for a clergy person to be intentional about making connections (home/hospital visits; residence; meet with people in the church (at least 4) to get acquainted, learn stories, understand connection with the church
  • Broader experience – strategic planning, administration, calendaring, office functions
  • Experience new ministries, try new things to make church relevant – conversations for reimagining church
  • Assist planning, consult on creative expressions, and lead Sunday worship.

  • Rising College Junior or Senior
  • Clear Background Check and Safe Church training required (training available on the job, first week)
  • Study in related field
