The Closing of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Drain, Oregon
After 70 years of ministry, the congregation of St. David’s Episcopal Church in the town of Drain, Oregon decided to end its time as a mission of the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon. The church building was sold on Thursday, June 10, 2021, to the Family Relief Nursery in Drain, a family and childcare center that has been renting space from the parish of St. David’s for many years. This relationship between St. David’s and the Family Relief Nursery has grown very close over the years and selling of the property to the Nursery was the ardent hope of the 2 remaining congregants of St. David.
The Family Relief Nursery, with 41 sites in the state of Oregon, is a self-referral center, providing respite and therapeutic care for families and parent education. It has been a well-known pillar of the community of Drain for many years. With the purchasing of the church building, the Nursery will be able to expand their offerings to the community.
“This sale is more than a transaction between two organizations,” said the Rt. Rev. Diana Akiyama, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon. “It is an outward and visible sign of God’s activity in our lives. Out of death comes new life – this is the resurrection making itself known in our community.”
The Family Relief Nursery in Drain will be renamed St. David’s Family Relief Nursery, continuing the congregation’s ministry of participating in the hospitality of Christ’s love by caring for children and their families in our community.
“The Diocese of Oregon is focused on privileging the vulnerable and those in need to participate in God’s transforming love. One of the ways we have been able to support this work is through the transfer of property in order to transform lives,” said Bishop Akiyama. The mission of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Drain will be formally dissolved through a resolution vote at our Diocesan Convention in November, as required in Canon 6.14.4 of our Canons and Constitution.

La Iglesia Episcopal San David, en Drain Oregon,
llega a su fin.
Después de 70 años de ministerio, la congregación de la Iglesia Episcopal de San David en la ciudad de Drain, Oregón, decidió que era tiempo terminar de ser una misión de la Iglesia Episcopal en el oeste de Oregón. El edificio de la Iglesia se vendió el Jueves 10 de Junio de este año 2021, a Family Relief Nursery (Guardería de Asistencia Familiar) en Drain, un centro de cuidado infantil y familiar que ha estado alquilando el edificio de la Iglesia San David durante muchos años. Esta relación entre San David y Family Relief Nursery ha crecido mucho a lo largo de los años y la venta de la propiedad a la Guardería era una esperanza ardiente de los 2 feligreses restantes de San David.
Family Relief Nursery, es un centro de autorreferencia que brinda cuidados terapéuticos y de alivio para las familias y educación para los padres, que cuenta con 41 sitios en el estado de Oregon. Ha sido un pilar muy conocido de la comunidad en Drain durante muchos años. Con la compra del edificio de la Iglesia, la guardería podrá expandir sus servicios a la comunidad.
“Esta venta es más que una transacción entre dos organizaciones”, afirma la Reverendísima Diana Akiyama, Obispo de la Diócesis Episcopal de Oregon. “Es un signo externo y visible de la actividad de Dios en nuestras vidas. De la muerte surge una nueva vida: esta es la resurrección que se da a conocer en nuestra comunidad”.
Family Relief Nursery en Drain pasará a llamarse St. David Family Relief Nursery, continuando el ministerio de la congregación, de participar en la hospitalidad del amor de Cristo, al cuidar de los niños y sus familias de nuestra comunidad.
“La Diócesis de Oregon, para participar en el amor transformador de Dios, se enfoca en favorecer a los vulnerables y los necesitados. Una de las formas en que hemos podido apoyar este trabajo es mediante la transferencia de propiedad para transformar vidas”, dijo la Obispa Akiyama. La misión de la Iglesia Episcopal de San David en Drain se disolverá formalmente mediante una votación de resolución en nuestra Convención Diocesana en Noviembre, como se requiere en Canon 6.14.4 de nuestra Constitución y Cánones.
