Catharine Crozier Organ Recital: Erik Wm. Suter

April 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Internationally acclaimed organist and pilot Erik Wm. Suter presents a breathtaking organ recital for Trinity Cathedral’s Catherine Crozier Memorial Organ Recital on Friday, April 12 at 7:00pm. Mr. Suter’s impressive program includes several pillars of the organ repertoire, as well as the world premiere of Infinity Loop, a brand-new work by composer Texu Kim.

Mr. Suter, a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University, has held many prestigious church posts throughout the United States, including the National Cathedral and All Saints, Boston. His international concert career has taken him across the U.S. to Stockholm, Tokyo, Toronto, and England. In addition to numerous competition awards, Mr. Suter has recorded an impressive five solo compact discs. He also pilots for Southwest Airlines.

From pieces of epic grandiosity like Jean Demessieux’ Te Deum and Franz Liszt’s Fantasy and Fugue on “Ad nos” to works full yearning lyricism from Louis Vierne and Herbert Howells, Mr. Suter’s program is one of true excitement and versatility. This, combined with a highly anticipated world premiere, truly makes this recital one of a kind. Trinity’s remarkable Rosales pipe organ could not be better suited for such a thrilling program.

Texu Kim (b.1980) is “one of the most active and visible composers of his generation” (San Francisco Classical Voice), writing music that’s fun, sophisticated, and culturally connected. Kim’s work has enjoyed an impressive international performance history from a roster of top orchestras and ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, the New World Symphony, the Oakland Symphony, and the Oregon Symphony. A frequent collaborator with choreographers, filmmakers, and educators, Kim has received awards and honors from the Barlow Prize, American Modern Ensemble, Copland House, SCI/ASCAP, Civitella Ranieri Foundation, and Isang Yun International Composition Prize, to name a few.

Dr. Catharine Crozier (1914-2003), was Artist-in-Residence at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for much of the last decade of her life, and was one of the most admired and sought-after American concert organists of the 20th century. Dr. Crozier was a pioneer among women in a field once heavily dominated by male performers. Her legacy supports our annual Catharine Crozier Memorial Organ Recital, which brings brilliant concert organists from across the globe to Trinity.
