ABOUT THE ORGANIST
Paul Flyger received both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Organ Performance from Andrews University, studying with Dr. C. Warren Becker and Dr. Kenneth Logan. His post-graduate studies were with Dr. Karl Schrock of Western Michigan University. He was organist at the Pilgrim Congregational UCC Church and later served as organist at the First Congregational UCC Church in St. Joseph for 24 years. As Director of Music Ministry, he directed the Children’s choir and three handbell choirs.
As an active musician in southwest Michigan, Mr. Flyger taught piano and music history classes at Lake Michigan College, Benton Harbor, was Principal Keyboardist for the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra, performed organ recitals for the Southwest Michigan AGO chapter (Kalamazoo), the Saint Joseph Monday Musical Club and multiple performances for the Twin Cities Organ Concert Series and most recently in Germany.
Since moving to Oregon in 2017, Mr. Flyger has continued as a guest organist for Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Portland, All Saints Episcopal Church Hillsboro, St. James Lutheran Portland and other local churches. His expanded career has included office management, human resources, data engineer and finance management. He has been the Finance Manager at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral since January 2023.
