The Episcopal Parish of St. John the Baptist is seeking a full-time rector to join them in a place “where tradition welcomes diversity.” This is a community of faith that loves the Episcopal traditions and Anglo-Catholic roots but holds them gently. They gather for the sacraments, for the beautiful liturgy, and for the sacred music that has been part of the Episcopal Church for centuries. It is also the community with deep commitments to social ministries and social justice. St. John the Baptist is different from the traditional “stand-alone” parish. It is located on the campus of Oregon Episcopal School, creating a bucolic setting and the amenities of an extensive campus. The school Board of Trustees is chaired by the bishop and our rector is a permanent member of the board. They seek a rector who will help them continue to deepen their understanding of the Episcopal faith, with scripture-based sermons that also reflect on contemporary issues; adult and youth education; and liturgy and music that enrich the experiences of that faith. St. John the Baptist would welcome someone who communicates and listens, with a good sense of humor and creative ideas to help the congregation imagine what is possible to rejuvenate the church in a post-pandemic world.
