Dear Friends in Christ,
I am delighted to share with you the news that the Rev. Christopher Craun will join the diocesan team as our new Missioner for Thriving Congregations. This new position combines the responsibilities of the transition officer with new responsibilities focused on serving congregations seeking new and innovative ways to express faith in community. Chris not only brings experience and expertise to this work, her enthusiasm, energy, and creativity will serve the diocese well as we wonder, together, what God is creating today in the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon.
Chris comes to the diocesan staff after serving as Rector and Co-Youth Leader of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Portland, Oregon. During her tenure with St. Michael & All Angels, Chris has worked with the congregation to become an Immigrant Welcoming Congregation, Sanctuary Church, and a Green Faith Certified Church. She also played an active role in their stewardship team, increasing pledge income by about 20% to allow for the addition of an associate clergy for the Spanish speaking service.
In her letter to St. Michael & All Angels announcing this news, she wrote, “My intention is to bring what I have learned from my experience with you and walk with other congregations and communities that are seeking a more vibrant expression of the work and ministry of Jesus… I am very excited about the reach of this work and feel like the very parts of me that were seen 12 years ago, the qualities that you blessed and cultivated, are being seen and called on in a new way.”
She has also served as the Metro East Convocation Dean, Managing Director of the Confirm not Conform – National Confirmation Program, and on the Commission on Ministry for the Ordained. Chris holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Certificate of Theological Studies with a focus on Professional Youth Ministry from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, and a Master of Divinity from General Theological Seminary in New York. In 2013, she was a Fellow at The Beatitudes Society, and in 2016 she earned her Certificate of Completion from the College for Congregational Development.
Christopher will begin her work on December 1, 2021 and will benefit from Canon Neysa’s expertise during a transition period prior to Neysa’s departure at the end of this year.

Este nuevo puesto combina, las responsabilidades del oficial de transición, con nuevas responsabilidades enfocadas en servir a las congregaciones que buscan formas nuevas e innovadoras de expresar la fe en la comunidad. Chris llega al personal diocesano después de servir como rectora y co-líder juvenil de la Iglesia Episcopal San Miguel y Todos los Angeles en Portland, Oregon. En su carta a San Miguel y Todos los Angeles, anunciando esta noticia, ella escribió: “Mi intención es llevar lo que he aprendido en mi experiencia y caminar a otras congregaciones y comunidades que buscan una expresión más vibrante del trabajo y ministerio de Jesús… Estoy muy emocionada por la magnitud de este trabajo y siento que las mismas cosas que ustedes vieron en mí hace 12 años, las cualidades que ustedes han bendecido y cultivado, están siendo vistas y llamadas a un nuevo camino”.
También ella ha servido como Decana de la Convocatoria de Metro Este, Directora del Programa de Confirmación Nacional “Confirmar, no Conformar”, y en la Comisión para el Ministerio Ordenado. Chris tiene un Bachillerato en Psicología, de la Universidad de California; Certificado de Estudios Teológicos con un enfoque en Ministerio Juvenil Profesional, del seminario CDSP en California; y una Maestría en Divinidad del Seminario Teológico General en Nueva York. En 2013, fue miembra de La Sociedad de Beatitudes, y en 2016 obtuvo su Certificado del Colegio para el Dasarrollo Congregacional, en Seattle WA.
Christopher comenzará su trabajo el 1 de diciembre del 2021 y se beneficiará de la experiencia de Canon Neysa durante un período de transición antes de la partida de Canon Neysa, a fines de este año.
