Thriving Leaders
As we strive toward becoming Healthy Leaders, Healthy Communities, we have redesigned how we support, equip, and mentor our newly
ordained, first time in charge, and new-to-the-diocese clergy. We have moved away from using Fresh Start and have created a
two-year program called “Thriving Leaders.”
Any newly ordained or first time in charge clergy will engage in this two-year process with the accompaniment of an experienced mentor. Clergy who are new to the diocese attend the bi-annual retreats to be oriented to the diocese.
Commitment: 6 meetings a year and 2 retreats
Seasoned clergy and lay leaders
offer their wisdom in topics such as:
On-Boarding Well
Wellness
Self-Differentiated Leadership
Sacred Organizing
Worship Planning
Stewardship
There will be opportunities to share case studies and learn from one another, as well as have fun and learn how to balance work and life. Clergy who are new to the diocese will join Thriving Leaders for two retreats during their first year to connect with colleagues and learn about the expectations, resources, and systems of the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon.
The Missioner for Thriving Congregations, the Rev. Christopher Craun, and the Rev. Gail Greenwell co-run this program, weaving together their experiences in the College for Congregational Development and large system theories, respectively.
