Wednesday Class: Jesus & the Gospel of Thomas

January 15, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

(Hybrid; led by Pat Zimmer) The Gospel of Thomas is a noncanonical gospel containing 114 sayings attributed to Jesus. Known as logions, some of these sayings are familiar to us from the four canonical gospels, and some are strange and cryptic. Many are challenging. Join us as we read, reflect, share, and journal on a few of these logions each session, using analyses from noted Gnostic scholars Lynn Bauman, Marvin Meyers, Elaine Pagels, and Cynthia Bourgeault.

Register in advance here.

The Gospel of Thomas is a very different way of understanding Jesus than Matthew, Mark, Luke, – and certainly John. Scholars believe the logions were collected by early Gnostic Christians, who believed that the Spirit of God is within us and that by knowing ourselves, we can come to know God.

About the leader: Pat Zimmer is a long-time Trinity parishioner, member of the Vestry, and Chair of the Spiritual Formation Commission. She has been leading Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina and contemplative chanting for the past five years and studying the mystics all her life.
